Chip Repair Process
We can often repair a chipped surface with fillings of two-pack epoxy to get a colour that suits the benchtop. We can also fill it with a gel that can be cured with a UV light. Once we have completed the UV light process, we use fine emery paper to shape the repair and go through the different gradings from coarse to fine. Once we have gone through the grades, we apply polishing paste and polish the area until it has the same shine as everywhere else.
How Do Chips Happen?
Most chips happen on benchtops in the corners or edges of the slab, where the impact is most likely to cause a break. These chips often occur from a saucepan, plate, or another heavy kitchen item that nicks the stone’s edge or corner.
How To Avoid Stone Surfaces From Chipping?
It’s part of life with any surface; accidents happen, and these can leave chips, nicks and cracks. The only way to avoid damaging any surface is to take your level or care to the extreme. No matter the surface, though, a chip or scratch will happen at some point. Once a chip does happen it’s essential to have it repaired by a professional as soon as possible to avoid further damage. Avoid using things such as super glue as this will damage the surface further.
